Hoi zusammen,
das war es - habe mathworks direkt angefragt. Hier die Antwort:
Thank you for contacting technical support referring to the subject "imread delievers faulty values" and the thread ID "1-CK414O". Investigating your example I noticed that actually does import correct values, however the colormap in 'topbar.bmp' seems inverteted when compared with 'white.bmp' and 'black.bmp'. We can verify this by calling IMREAD with a second output argument:

[A Amap] = imread('white','bmp'); Amap
[B Bmap] = imread('black','bmp'); Bmap
[C Cmap] = imread('topbar','bmp'); Cmap
